DVDs are perfect for long term storage Video was never meant to be a long term storage medium - many video tapes will not be playable within 20 years, in some cases much sooner.

Tapes stored in damp conditions can get covered in mould, which can lead to permanent and irreversible damage. Tests have shown that professional standard DVDs should last for a minimum of 100 years.

They never wear out, so they can be played repeatedly without loss of quality. DVD data is digital, so additional copies are exactly the same quality as the original. DVD video data is the format of the future.
